Finding a Counsellor you feel safe and comfortable with is of utmost importance; if you don’t feel comfortable enough to open up then we will not be able to work effectively with you. We will all come across people who for whatever reason we don’t quite gel with and this is part of being human. For this reason, we offer an initial chat free of charge, so that you can get a sense of who we are and how we work. We also encourage you to ‘shop around’ to find the best fit for you.
If after a few sessions you feel it is not working how you thought it would then that is also absolutely fine and we will completely respect your decision to end the contract early. We will build in regular time to check out how you are feeling our work is progressing and if there is anything you would like more or less of. Feedback is so important to us and we welcome any opportunity to reflect on our work together. Our counsellors also reserve the right to end the contract early in the even of any inappropriate behaviour or breaches of the contract as agreed at the start of our work together.
Life gets in the way for all of us at times and here at White Hart Therapies we understand that. We ask that you provide us with at least 24 hours’ notice of any change so that we can offer out your appointment to another client. Your counsellor will give you a mobile number and you will be asked to text any changes to them.
If we do not have sufficient notice and/or are unable to offer out the appointment, you will be charged the full fee. All of us therapists at White Hart are self-employed and if unable to work through clients not attending, we do not get paid. Where there is an unforeseen emergency, we will of course use our discretion to reschedule wherever possible and avoid any cost to the client.
White Hart Therapies waiting list is shorter than most free counselling services and we will aim to reply to any enquiries within a day or two. At certain times you may have to wait a few weeks to see your preferred therapist. We do our utmost to keep our waiting list short and we have an excellent network of therapists we can refer you on to in the event that you are not able to wait. Most of the time we can see you within two weeks of our initial consultation.
Counselling can help with a wide range of problems that are too lengthy to list here. It is sometimes too hard to fit your needs into a specific ‘category’ because they are unique to you, may be quite complex, and may involve feelings or emotions or behaviours we just don’t understand ourselves or that are occurring for no apparent reason. If you are unsure, get in touch and we can chat about what it is you might need.

In some situations, for example where the law requires it for child protection and the protection of vulnerable adults, we have to comply with our duty of care to report any risk of abuse. Wherever possible, we would discuss this with you before talking to anyone else.

We can offer face to face, online or telephone. In some situations, for example if a client is housebound, we can offer home visits too. Please note there is a reduced fee for online and telephone as we keep overheads down and can pass on that saving. There may be a charge for petrol/parking added if home visits are requested and agreed.
Yes, we will work with you to agree a suitable schedule of sessions. We usually like to hold the first three on a weekly basis to get a good sense of what the work involves an what your needs are. We can then negotiate how this will look going forward. We can meet more than once a week initially if you feel you need to.
We also offer ‘maintenance’ sessions for clients who have completed their work but want to check in from time to time.
